In February of 1933 Krings Vol. Fire Department was formed in the basement of Reichelts Store by citizens of the Community, after 3 devastating fires had taken place in their area. (Info. from the Daily Shopper 8/16/83) All the while, they continued to serve their community for years to follow. As time passed, the Ambulance and Fire Service separated, with the Ambulance service becoming an Entity of their own.
The Fire Department changed its name to Conemaugh Township Volunteer Fire Department Co. No. 1, Inc. and presently resides and operates at 1942 Krings St. in Tire Hill. The property previously was the Island Creek Coal Co. Wash-house. The purchase was made in 1996 and became the new home for the "Conemaugh Township Volunteer Fire Department."
As time went by, the Social Hall, which was still located on Krings St. where the "Krings Vol. Fire Dept. resided" started to deteriorate and became unusable for events. The building was sold and talk of a "New" social hall began. In 2006 the construction of the Hall began. The Hall was completed in October and was opened! The "new" Social Hall was named in dedication the "John Bracken Hall". John Bracken was a Chief for the Krings Fire Dept. and known to be an "Outstanding Officer".
John Bracken Hall is one of the "newest and finest" banquet halls in the area. It is used for Fire Department Fundraising, as well as booked for Weddings, Parties, Meetings and anything else we can accomodate the public by doing. John Bracken Hall is "Our newest asset" to the Community and we look forward to sharing it with you!
